Lock the door, close the blinds, put on your favorite movie/series and open a bottle of wine and order some pizza, get sloppy drunk on your own, then tomorrow pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep walking, you’ll be 100% ok; you had a life before you met him and you will certainly have a damn good life without him.

I guess I will give you the oddball idea. Go to bed early, and then go for a nice long morning run. Or if you can’t sleep go for a really long run. Don’t stop running until you feel like you’re going to blackout, and then run back home. Take a shower and pass out. Repeat in the morning.

Go for a long drive along some backroads or a deserted highway. Driving can be seriously cathartic if you don’t have to deal with traffic. Just focus on the road and your car, and let your thoughts roam.

Disclaimer: best not combine this with the beer/bourbon ideas.

Well it’s his loss and your better off without someone who wouldn’t rather talk about what’s wrong, but then again it’s best to be over quickly than drawn out if one person doesn’t want to be with the other.

Huh, funny, going through that at the moment as well. Except that my GF is ‘confused’ and not sure what she wants to do.

Usually I’d call it myself at that point, but her dad has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer which can send people a little bit loopy.

Now I have to wait in limbo til Saturday when we’ve arranged to meet and it’s dog-shit.

Personally, I find reading to be a good escape while you’re awake, but it’s the sleep that you really need to get past things. During sleep, the mind loosens the connections between memories. Part of the reason why drowning your sorrows is such a terrible idea, as it fucks with your sleeping patterns.

It’ll take a while to get used to the quiet again but you will because your better off without him.

The way I see it is. Yes we had good times but they aren’t going to dwell on the fact they did something wrong so why should I as the person being wronged waste my time and energy on what they did.

Sometimes you’ve got to get a few mates round, open some wine or beer and have a good old rant about them and the opposite sex in general, get it off your chest and out your system and pick yourself up and dust yourself off.

Kinja'd!!! pauljones > 12and35
09/07/2016 at 11:13

Kinja'd!!!1

What now?

Well, quite simply, you . As in you do you. Whatever feels right at the moment, do it* - forget about whether or not its rational. As humans being, we are not rational creatures. We are, however, usually reasonable creatures; and doing things that feel good right at any given moment is perfectly reasonable at times like this. If you’re going to heal and move on, you have to be in the mood to do so. It also helps if you’re happy and confident in your ability to do so.

So, what do you want to do? Do you want Taco Bell 1:47 am on a Wednesday from that place two towns over? Go get some fucking Taco Bell. Randomly feel the urge to by a six-pack of beers and do six hours of lawn work while listening to Savage Garden? Go for it. Who gives a shit if it’s some public park across town? Motherfuckers should have been maintaining the damn park themselves if they didn’t want this to happen, and they should be damn grateful someone is doing it for them!

The point is this: You’re in a lot of turmoil right now, and I’m sorry for that. Break-ups suck, especially when you suddenly find yourself in an empty place. If you want to take a little time to just be upset for a while, go for it. But remember that the only balance for a bunch of negative experiences is a bunch of positive experiences. We all have responsibilities that we have to take care of (paychecks are nice, you know?), but outside of that, do things that you want to do. If there is a hobby or activity you’ve always thought looked interesting, now’s a great time to step in and give it a try.

Whatever you do, though, remember to focus on you, and you alone. You should be the only benefactor you’re thinking about right now. When you do that, and you develop a passion for something (or, alternatively, re-kindle an existing passion for something), you’ll get yourself in a calmer, and more stable state of mind. You’ll be happier and more confident in yourself - and that’s when you can go back and reflect on what happened and think it all through. That’s when you’ll you’ll have enough grounding in the realization of just how awesome you are to not let any insecurities develop.

So off you go - go do you. Mope it out for a bit if you want, then go find ways to fill up every moment of free time that you’ve got.

It’s hard to communicate understanding of this sort of thing without coming off as trivializing what you’re going through, and that’s not my intention. Just know you’re never alone with this sort of thing.

*Within reason - Don’t do anything self-destructive of harmful to others.

Depends, were you the one who’s 12 or were you the 35 year old?

Life sucks sometimes, but its sometimes better to pull the band aid and move on. Keep your head up and remember that he obviously wasn't right for you, and now you can find that person who is.

That’s... not too bad actually, similar to what you’d pay in a bar in a tourist hotspot in Belgium (say, Brugge or the Grand Place in Brussels). It’s $1.45/bottle in the stores though. ;)

Oh that's better than I'd expect. Oh damn, that's a much better price though haha. We get a surprisingly good selection of Belgian stuff in Vancouver, it's quite nice. My regulars are Tremens, Duchess de Bourgogne, and Cuvée des Jacobins. I've also got Chimay White, La Trappe, and another good tripel I can't remember the name of right now.
